Blasting Abrasives

Blasting abrasives are commonly referred to as the "sand" in sandblasting applications. The combination of proper abrasive type and size, along with air blast or wheel blast equipment selection, can produce finishes ranging from:

A very deep profile to provide an anchor pattern for heavy coatings.

A clean, bright, cosmetically pleasing finish without metal removal.

A finish stripped of coatings on composite materials without damage to the delicate underlying surface.

And literally everything in between.

  • DUSTLESS BLASTING

    Crushed Glass

Glass abrasives are high quality, chemically inert, environmentally friendly and contain less than 1% free silica. As a blasting media, recycled crushed glass is a highly efficient material for many applications. Our products are used by customers in removal of surface coatings such as rust, paint and scale from a variety of substrates, especially stainless steel, aluminum, concrete, bricks and wood.

Crushed Glass is a general-purpose abrasive used in a wide variety of applications, from rust and mill scale removal, to delicate restoration work. Crushed Glass is a manufactured abrasive made from 100% recycled glass, and is ideal for concrete applications and brick and limestone restoration work. Crushed Glass’ sub-angular shape provides a uniform mil profile and cleans by cutting through mill scale and rust while providing lower particle embedment than most other abrasives. Crushed Glass will enhance the natural luster of the surface without discoloration.

    Qualities

An inexpensive angular abrasive that will produce a matte surface finish with low reuse

Primarily for anchor pattern creation or applications requiring the removal of rust, scale, and paint where abrasive reclamation for reuse is not available or feasible

A cost effective substitute for some slag and mineral abrasives

    Specifications

    Angular shape

    MOHs hardness: 5.5 - 6

    Specific gravity: 2.2

Available in mixed grit sizes based upon sieve screen measurement

OUR GLASS abrasives are high quality, chemically inert, environmentally friendly and contain less than 1% free silica. As a blasting media, recycled crushed glass is a highly efficient material for many applications. Our products are used by customers in removal of surface coatings such as rust, paint and scale from a variety of substrates, especially stainless steel, aluminum, concrete, bricks and wood.

  • SAND BLASTING

It is clean, economical, and readily available. It can be used safely with proper personal respiratory protection and practical engineering controls.

Silica sand has been and still is the most widely used blasting abrasive on the market today, mainly because of its versatility. It comes in a choice range of coarse to extra fine. Silica sand has a wide variety of uses from removing heavy rust to etching fine glass.

  • SODA BLASTING

    Sodium Bicarbonate

“The Original Baking Soda-Based Media” which is a much gentlerblasting material. It can be used to clean, de-paint, and degrease a wide variety of substrates including glass. Baking soda is friable, which intensifies the cleaning action while softening the impact on substrates. It can also remove mold and smoke damage, as sodium bicarbonate is a natural deodorizer.

    Qualities
An extremely soft and light abrasive media with the unique characteristic of water solubility

Excellent for cleaning of delicate substrates, removal of oil and grease from valves and moving parts, graffiti removal, fire and mold restoration work, and for cleaning Items that cannot tolerate any residual abrasive or substrate damage

    Excellent degreasing qualities

Used in specialized airblast equipment or pressure washers

A very specialized water soluble media that is not reusable

Available in formulations including hard abrasives for more aggressive cleaning and food grade formulations suitable for cleaning food processing equipment

    Specifications
    Angular to blocky shape

    MOHs hardness: 2.5

    Water soluble

    Non-sparking1 gram/cu. cm. specific gravity

  • WALNUT SHELLS

    Walnut Shell Qualities

Walnut shell is a chemically inert, nontoxic and biodegradableabrasive. Walnut shell blasting can strip paint and clear off rust. It is ideal for aluminum and brass. It is an alternative for sensitive blasting operations that require aggressive stripping without affect on the substrate. This blasting media is great for auto mechanics, hobbyists and metal specialists.

    Very light, angular shaped media

Suitable for stripping, deburring or cleaning of many soft substrates including aluminum, wood, plastic and some composites

Overlaps plastic media in some applications although is less durable than plastic

    Specifications

    Angular or blocky shape

    MOHs hardness: 2.5-3.5

Approximately 44 lbs/cu. ft. bulk density

Available in mixed grits based upon sieve screen measurement

  • GARNET

    Garnet

Garnet is an excellent abrasive for sandblasting and can also be used as filtration media. It offers the performance of expensive synthetic abrasive with the economy of a natural abrasive. It has a naturally sharp and durable grain which gives it the ability to cut fast, normally 20% – 50% faster than other abrasives, and produces very little dust. It can be reused, which saves on production cost and time. It contains no free silica.

    Qualities
    Angular shaped mineral abrasive

Produces a rough, uniform, matte finish with a sharp texture

For profiling, cleaning, and the removal of paint, corrosion, rust, scale

Grain shape and high bulk density result in a fast cutting and stripping abrasive with relatively low dust

Used extensively in water jet cutting

Suitable for moderate reuse although less durable than most fused electrominerals

    Specifications
    Angular shape

    MOHs hardness: 7 - 8

Approximately 145 lbs/cu. ft. bulk density

Available in grits sizes based upon sieve screen measurement

  • CORN COB

Corn Cob/MaizoCorn cob media (also known as Maizo) is used in dry finishing processes. This light weight media is ideal for adding a finishing shine to your parts. This media is also effective for stripping wood, aluminum, fiberglass, buildings, boats and log cabins. Corn Cob granules are highly absorbent in drying operations and effective in clean-ups of oil spills. Also used as an all-natural ingredient in cosmetics & soap. Environmentally friendly, biodegradable, compostable and long lasting, this renewable and reclaimable media is safe for use on delicate substrates, surfaces and parts.

Corn cob granules have been a leading choice when the job demands a softer, low-dusting, and environmentally safe material. It can be used around equipment and bearings, hydraulic systems, and electrical devices. Corn cob is ideal for applications such as wood log homes, thin metals, and plastics.

    Maizo Qualities

A very light and soft agricultural abrasive media that is also absorbent

Used for cleaning delicate surfaces or brass/brick/stone/wood

Corn cob media is often used in vibratory finishing equipment for parts drying and light polishing

    Maizo Specifications

    Angular or blocky shape

    MOHs hardness: 2.5-3.5

Approximately 20-30 lbs/cu. ft. bulk density

Available in mixed grits based upon sieve screen measurement

Absorbent qualities for drying or degreasing

  • COAL SLAG

This moisture free media is also chemically inert and low dusting. With a high degree of etch, it allows better bonding. It shares many of the same characteristics of sand, but contains less free silica. (<0.1%free silica). Our coal slag meets industry abrasive specifications and environmental standards.

Coal slag is a by-product of the combustion of coal. It is high quality, with consistent gradation, and it removes surface coatings and contaminants faster.
